Event: Military Order No. 291 on Land Settlement
The order suspends a 1952 Jordanian law (Land and Water Settlement Law No. 40) that was designed to regulate the procedures of submitting registration requests in a region declared to be subject to a settlement process within a specific time. (Much of the West Bank area was still unsettled; ownership titles were not yet registered in the Land Registry.) The suspension of the Jordanian law will facilitate the declaration of Palestinian lands as “state lands” and their expropriation for the establishment of Jewish colonies.
