Event: Emergency Regulations Regarding Absentee Property

User login

Israel passes a law intended to expropriate the property of all Palestinians who left their homes during the war, even if they returned. Compared to the Abandoned Areas Ordinance, the legislation shifts the legal focus from the property to the owner by including in the "absentee" categoy a wide group of persons who are not refugees in the commonly understood sens of the word. Consequently, the "Custodian of Absentee Property" replaces the previous appellation (adopted in July) "Custodian of Abandoned Property."
